Eggs and fry are typically delivered by airfreight or picked up by the buyer at the hatchery in Smyrna, De. FedEx can also be used, especially for smaller shipments. Each shipping box can hold from 30,000 (48 hr) to 100,000 (12 hr) fry; the normal load of 50,000 fry is good for 24 hr. Shipping charges range between $50.00 and $100.00 per box on FedEx plus packing and land transport fees. Commercial airfreight is usually less expensive. Fingerlings are usually delivered by truck but airfreight is a viable option if the fish and/or shipment are small. Motor freight charges range from $1.50 to $4.00 per mile depending upon the size of the truck and the portion of the load. Most truck deliveries are made within 400 miles of the hatchery in NJ, NY, OH, PA, MD, VA, WV and southern New England. Large or long deliveries will require a commercial hauler.
Koi of all sizes can be shipped by airfreight or over night delivery to anywhere in the continental US.
